Step #2 - Upload graphics to your SOAR website

Now that you have a collection of graphics/images on your local computer, you need to get those images/graphics up on your SOAR website so you can use them.

For an image/graphic to be used on your SOAR website, it must be already on the Internet someplace. What better place to store them than directly inside your SOAR website.

SOAR provides two upload tools for you use to move graphics/images from your local computer onto your SOAR website.

Site Graphics
  • This should be the primary tool you use for uploading graphics/images, unless you are uploading photos from a digital camera.
  • It will not modify the size or resolution of your images in any way.
  • Thus it will preserve any Animated GIF images that you want to use.
  • All images must be smaller than 150KB in file size to upload.
  • If you have graphics/images greater than 150KB you should try to edit them to bring them below 150KB yourself if possible. This will insure the image you place on your SOAR website maintains the size you expect.
  • If you don't know how to edit images, you can use the Site Photos upload. Be aware that we will resize the image for you though.
Site Photos
  • This should be the primary tool you use for uploading photos from digital cameras that you want to use inside content (Announcements, Events, Custom Pages) on your SOAR website.
  • You should try to avoid using this tool for anything by digital photos. In the future we will draw from the pool of pictures uploaded by this tool to display pictures slideshows on your Home Page.
  • This tool will automatically resize uploaded photos.

Now that you have a better understanding of what tools are available to you, lets go use them to upload the images from Step #1 into your SOAR website.

Step by Step instructions

  • Login to your SOAR website using an account that has Add Account/Leader or Administrative rights.
  • On the Administrative menu on the left, click on the Content menu item.
  • Click on the Site Graphics button.
  • If a security window appears, check "Always trust content from this publisher" and then click the Run/Allow button.
  • You should now see the Upload Tool which has the text "Drop Files Here" in the middle of it
    • If you do not see the Upload Tool go to www.java.com to download and install the latest version of Java on your computer.
  • Click the +Add button so that we can select graphics/images to upload
  • A file dialog box will appear. Locate the graphics/images on your local computer and select them.
    • If you select a Folder, all the images in that folder will be selected.

    • You can select multiple images by clicking on the first one and then Ctrl-clicking on each subsequent image you want to select
  • You should now see a series of thumbnails of all the images/graphics you just selected.
  • Click the "up arrow" located in the bottom left of the Upload Tool.
  • This starts the upload process
  • There are progress indicators on the top right of the tool that you can watch
    • The number next to the up arrow displays how many images are currently being uploaded. This number will either read 0 or 1.

    • The number next to the checkmark in a red circle displays how many images have been successfully uploaded.
    • The number next to the exclamation point in a yellow triangle displays how many errors occured during upload.
  • Congratulations! You have just uploaded your first set of images/graphics to use on your SOAR website.

Repeat the process above as need for additional graphics. The procedure for using the Site Photos tool is exactly the same - just select digital photos instead of graphics/images.
